The Nervous System and Pain

With ongoing pain, the nervous system can “turn up the volume” so that it responds more strongly than it needs to. This is called sensitisation.

The good news is that the nervous system can also change in helpful ways. This ability to change – neuroplasticity – is the basis of recovery.
