Lumbar Sympathetic Chain Pulsed Radiofrequency and Block

The lumbar sympathetic chain regulates blood flow and nerve activity to the legs, and can become an important contributor to pain in conditions such as complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) of the lower limb, as well as some peripheral vascular pain conditions. This procedure targets that chain of nerves directly, alongside the spine in the lower back.

Performed under X-ray guidance, local anaesthetic is injected precisely around the lumbar sympathetic chain, with pulsed radiofrequency sometimes applied to extend the duration of benefit. Careful imaging throughout ensures accurate, safe placement adjacent to the spine and major blood vessels in this region.
