Ganglion Impar Radiofrequency therapy
|
Radiofrequency treatment of the ganglion impar may be considered for selected patients with persistent coccygeal, perineal or pelvic pain when a ganglion impar block has produced meaningful but temporary relief. The treatment aims to reduce abnormal sympathetic pain signalling from this small nerve structure. With X-ray guidance, a specialised needle is positioned at the ganglion impar and carefully tested before radiofrequency energy is delivered. Depending on the clinical situation, pulsed radiofrequency or another radiofrequency technique may be selected. The procedure is designed to target the pain pathway while limiting treatment to the intended area. Relief may develop gradually and its duration varies between individuals. When effective, treatment may make sitting, walking and other daily activities more comfortable and can provide a useful window for rehabilitation. Dr Danesh will consider the response to the diagnostic block and your overall clinical picture before recommending radiofrequency treatment. |
