BOTOX Injection (Botulinum)

Botulinum toxin (BOTOX) injections can be used in selected pain conditions where excessive muscle activity or abnormal nerve signalling contributes to symptoms. In pain medicine, botulinum toxin may be considered for conditions such as chronic migraine and selected muscle-related pain syndromes when standard treatments have not provided adequate relief.

The medication is injected in small, carefully selected doses into specific muscles or other treatment sites according to the diagnosis and established treatment pattern. Depending on the condition, injections may be guided by anatomical landmarks, ultrasound or another appropriate technique. The effect is not immediate: botulinum toxin gradually reduces activity at the treated nerve-muscle junctions.

Improvement generally develops over days to weeks and may last for several months, depending on the condition and individual response. Repeat treatment is sometimes required to maintain benefit, but the timing is tailored to the clinical indication and response. Dr Danesh will discuss whether botulinum toxin is appropriate for your particular pain condition and what outcome to expect.
